Alan Scott's Guestbook

Comments:
As Chairman of the Board of the 382 member organization known as "The Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia," let me just say that it is wonderful that the Scott family is doing this project. It sort of goes hand-in-hand with what our organization is doing. We are preserving for the future audio, video, paper (scripts, photos, etc.) We have tens of thousands of photos, nearly that many radio programs and over a thousand TV shows, most on the original professional broadcast tape, donated by Philadelphia TV stations. But so much is missing.

I was delighted a few years ago that we inducted Alan into our Hall of Fame. On November 19, 2010, we will be inducting Joe Earley who played Mr. Rivets with Alan. We had previously inducted Jane King Hall into our Hall of Fame. Jane did commercials on "Let Scott Do It" and sometimes provided homemaker tips. So all air talent from "Let Scott Do It" will now be in our Hall of Fame.

I was also one of the kids who watched "Let Scott Do It." It was a wonderful show. I remember it fondly.

As a broadcast historian, I must say how important it is to preserve for future generations what happened in the past. Philadelphia was a rich marketplace, especially in the early days of radio and television. Alan is certainly a large part of that history.

Remember, history is only what gets saved. If no one ever saved a painting of George Washington, how would we know what he looked like?

I'm 63 years old and grew up in Upper Darby. I certainly remember your dad during his days in Philadelphia. Until I viewed the video I had forgotten all about "Mr. Rivets". Thanks for bringing back that memory as well. I'm sure I'll check in on your site from time to time to see if there is anything new. Its a great tribute to your father!

What a wonderful tribute to a broadcast pioneer, and, obviously, a beloved father. The site is well-done, and while I'd never heard him on the air or heard of him, lots of interesting information here.

My own career was in the technical end of broadcasting, having spent 3 years at stations in NY and on Long Island, 15 years at WTIC AM/FM/TV in Hartford, and 28 years at The Voice of America.

Thanks for creating and maintaining this great website.

Thank you so much for assembling and putting forth the life and works of Pop. What a marvelous legacy for his family and friends - of a truly great individual who's inspiration and conscious goodwill remains a gift generation after generation.

Happy 100th birthday, Big Bird!
although my memories of you are more than 30 years old,
they are an indelible part of my soul.
do you remember how you used to put my dresses on backward?
( i thought then that you really didn't know better )
how about that jar of jelled mint candies that you always let me
sneak....? I love how you loved me and how you adored my grandmother.
you and i both loved the ceramic frogs that she kept near the fruit bowl to scare the fruit-flies away. you gave up your seat and the news for me when i visited, so a little hippie child that wasn't allowed to watch TV could soak up a few disney specials at your house. you were always well dressed and so handsome. even then, i knew that.
you are so dear and so loved and so much a part of our lives!
